Bridgestone grabs the spotlight at Formula One in Bahrain

Bahrain, GCC – As the world’s favorite motor racing sport revs its engines for yet another
exciting year of challenging circuits and adrenalin rushes, the Middle East opened its gates to
the masses to be part of the Formula One 2008, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Standing proud at the forefront of this event is Bridgestone, the official tyre supplier for
Formula One.
The 2008 season has already kicked off with three exciting races, Bahrain Grand Prix being
the most recent one. Bahrain is considered as one of the hottest racing circuits, with six
corners heading on to long straights and a good traction that proves beneficial for both
drivers and tyres. The beauty of this circuit remains in the drivers’ capability to maneuver
traction, one of the factors that made the races all the more interesting.
This season Bridgestone invited some of its esteemed clients, agents, distributors and media
to Bahrain. The guests witnessed the thrilling races from the Bridgestone Paddock, a view
that allowed them to enjoy the high-powered racing excitement in its entirety. Giving the
guests a glimpse of the true essence of the races, the event began with a tour of the
Bridgestone stand at the F1 Village Area, followed by a welcome speech by Mr. Shoichi
Sakuma, President of Bridgestone Middles East and Africa FZE.
But the highlight of the day is the personal visit by Kimi Raikkonen, a Finnish sensation and
one of the drivers of Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro. The FIA Formula One World Championship
2007 winner will meet all guests in the Bridgestone Paddock, a true honor for all guests and a
definite top-up to the racing excitement.
Bridgestone’s new role as the official Formula One tyre supplier has changed the company’s
working practice, but definitely not its philosophy. Providing the best motor sport tyres
across all categories, the brand has made alterations to their tyres for more safety, which will
enable all the teams to develop their cars to a tyre they already know. After a successful
Formula One season in 2007, Bridgestone has already showed their true grit with the Bahrain
Grand Prix.
Bridgestone’s commitment to perfecting the tyres for the Formula One races began since its
racing debut at the first Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka in 1963. With Bridgestone winning
four consecutive victories at Monaco F3 between 1991 and 1994, the successes kept adding
on, finally making Bridgestone the official tyre supplier to the FIA Formula One World
Championship (2008-2010).
Today, Bridgestone is the world’s largest manufacturer of tyres and rubber products, owing to
its commitment to motor racing and passion for excellence.
